Hey Friends! Today, we're delving into a topic that might not be dinner table conversation, but it's certainly worth discussing: parasites. These sneaky organisms can take up residence in our bodies without us even knowing, causing a range of symptoms. But fear not! We've got you covered with information on what parasites are, how you might get them, and what signs to watch out for.

What Exactly is a Parasite?

A parasite is an organism that thrives by living on or inside another living organism, known as the host. They rely on the host for nourishment and can cause a variety of health issues in the process. Parasites come in various forms, including worms, protozoa, and even certain types of fungi and bacteria.

How Do You Get Parasites?

While no one wants to think about it, coming into contact with parasites is more common than you might think. They can be found in contaminated food and water, as well as in soil and certain animals. Inadequate hygiene practices, especially in areas with poor sanitation, can also increase the risk of parasite transmission. This isn't always from traveling to another country- it can happen simply from your dog at your house!

Signs and Symptoms of Parasitic Infection

Spotting a parasite infection can be tricky since symptoms often overlap with other health issues. Common signs may include:

  1. Digestive Disturbances: This could range from diarrhea and constipation to nausea and abdominal pain, or bloating and gas. Especially bloating upon waking and loose stool multiple times a day.

  2. Unexplained Fatigue: Feeling constantly tired, even after a full night's sleep, can be a sign of a parasitic infection. Insomnia in general.

  3. Weight Changes: Sudden weight loss or difficulty gaining weight despite a healthy diet could be indicative of a parasitic presence.

  4. Skin Irritations: Rashes, hives, acne ( especially on back and forehead) or other skin problems may arise due to certain parasites. Itchy anus- especially at night. Hot flashes at night.

  5. Mental Fog or Mood Changes: Some parasites can affect your mental clarity or even cause mood swings and anxiety.

  6. Gut, Mold, or Deficiencies Not Improving: If you have taken some steps to balance the gut or hormones and still not seeing positive steps it may be time to look at a potential parasite.
